Map every piece to the boat

Label the helm, cockpit, aft bench and other seating areas separately. Include hinges, removable panels, access hatches and fastening locations in the photos.

Choose materials by exposure

An exposed bench, sheltered lounge and equipment cover have different requirements. Discuss splash, sun, drying and cleaning rather than choosing from color alone.

Confirm templates and access

Curved seating and irregular edges may require a template. Discuss where the vessel is located and what access is needed before assuming measurement, installation or collection is included.

Do you need the old cushions?

Photos and measurements are a useful start. Existing pieces or templates may be needed to confirm a shaped seat or fastening layout.

Can a cover block access to equipment?

Access requirements should be part of the design brief. Flag every hatch, handle, control and ventilation opening before approving a cover.
